Glad you asked. Dev Days are one of the crucial pillars of Infobip's engineering culture and have been around since 2014. Our annual internal conference, created by engineers - for engineers - gathers members of Engineering, Product Development, CorpSec, Developer Experience and other technical departments. That's where we share knowledge and challenges over the past year from all of our R&D centers and learn, socialize and grow together as a global team.
The first Dev Days took place back in 2014 and gathered 130 engineers at a thermal spa hotel near Zagreb. Our latest Dev Days in 2022 looked a little bit different with 900+ engineers from 14 locations gathering in our very own Alpha Centauri campus in Zagreb.
When you have a number of almost a thousand Engineering and Product Development members distributed all over the world, it can be a little hard to keep track of what your colleagues are doing in Poland if you're sitting in Vodnjan.
That's why we came up with the idea back in 2014 to get all of us in one place to update each other on the most important happenings in our teams, innovations and new tools, our biggest wins, but also lessons learned during the year. This gathering would also be a great place for everyone to share valuable knowledge and insights they gained working on our products or simply by trying new things.
With every new iteration we gave Dev Days more structure and created several different tracks. Today we have Engineering, Data, Product Development tracks, and many more. Dev Days are also a place where the Engineering and PD leadership share their vision and company strategy, making sure everyone building our products is on the same page and with the same mission.
A lot of our teams collaborate across several different locations. Sure, that means an exciting opportunity to work with different cultures, meet new people with different perspectives or have a couch to sleep on in a foreign city! But, that also means a lot of meetings online, seeing your team members on screens only most of the time, and taking screenshots of funny poses they freeze in when the internet disconnects.
That's why Dev Days have an additional, but even more important purpose than just learning, and that is collaboration. During those few days, teams from different locations use the time to get together, meet colleagues in person and have some very much needed in-person collaboration.
Don't think it's all work and no play. Our Dev Days conference has its own Fun Board (board game and table tennis enthusiasts and fun lovers) that works tirelessly on crafting the best entertainment program for the whole duration of the conference.
The last edition of Dev Days included:
Pub Quiz
Table football
Table tennis tournament
